Using toe foams to help treat corns on the feet

Corns on the toes can be quite painful. They are as a result of an excessive amount of pressure on that part of the toes and the skin just thickens up to protect itself, then becomes so thick that it's then painful. Reasons for that higher pressure are numerous and could be due to a bony deformity, a hammer toe or a bunion. A competent podiatrist can certainly get rid of a corn, however, if the pressure that caused the corn is still there, then it's likely to come back. To get the best results long term, the main reason for the corn has to be recognized and that reason taken away. From time to time that will need surgery to improve the underlying bone or toe disability. Other times that can require the use of padding for force relief over the corn. Generally, an improvement in the fit of footwear is the most effective ways to get load off a corn.

One method to self manage these complaints is to remove the force. You will find protective pads which you can use like the toe foams. They are a soft foam made of polyurethane which has a cloth backing. They are available in longer tubes which means you or the podiatrist can cut these to the necessary size to put over a toe to cushion and shield it. Several of the toe foams have a doubled thicker area on one side for further protection. They tend for use more in the short to medium terms because they are soft, they are not that durable. If they are useful and require to be used more in the longer term then they will need to get replaced frequently. Generally discuss what you can do with the podiatrist to determine the things they propose as the things they believe are your best alternatives in the long run.
