Erich Clementi, VP Enterprise Systems Sales, EMEA, IBM
Innovation for e-business with Linux
(in
English)
There is no question that e-business has evolved, creating unprecedented
change in the computing environment and dramatically impacting the
way the world conducts business. No longer defined by cool browser
technology or innovative business models, today, e-business has
become "business" -- real business. Serious business. It has to
work everywhere. It has to work seamlessly. It has to work all the
time. And the infrastructures that support it must be open, fast,
secure, reliable and intelligent. With technology accelerating super-exponentially,
we're now entering a second phase -- call it the next generation
of e-business -- a period that will be simultaneously more mature,
more exciting, and more important. Erich Clementi, VP Enterprise
Systems Sales of IBM Europe, Middle East and Africa -- the company
that defined the first generation of e-business some six years ago
-- opens Linux Expo with his view on the importance of Linux, its
future and the innovation it is driving throughout the industry
as well as how it is influencing IBM's next generation e-business
strategy. In doing so, Mr. Clementi will explain why Linux is appealing
and discuss the rationale behind why companies -- like IBM -- are
embracing it so aggressively.

Linux and Open Source, an obvious choice
Not until long ago, people asked "why should
I use Linux or Open Source?". With the vast success of Open Source
technology, this question is rarely asked anymore. This talk will
explain why, and will show you the roots and some of the future
of the Linux OS.

Richard Curran, Solutions
Enabling & Services Intel EMEA
http://www.essaysreasy.com/content/ Linux evolution on Intel Arquitecture
Today most of Linux deployments is happening on Intel(R) Pentium(R)
Processor based systems, and with new kernel release 2.4, Linux
has grown to become a stable, capable UNIX*-like operating system.
Intel itself, but also with many other respected partners, is driving
that forward to ensure development of enterprise features like reliability,
availability and scalability. Examples of that is kernel tree for
Intel(R) Itanium(TM) Processor based systems, developed in a community
based project, driven by Intel in team with other critical Linux
companies. Preproduction Intel Itanium Processor based system running
Linux are currently available to many ISVs and Linux community,
and kernel released to open source in February 2000 is now part
of Linux beta distributions. To hear more about what Intel is doing
in Linux space, like Intel C/C++ Compiler, Infiniband enabling,
Open Source Development Lab (large, scalable lab to support development
of data center class capabilities in Linux), and more about new
things coming, attend Intel's keynote session.

The GNOME 2.0 platform
This talk will discuss the issues that
are being addressed as part of the GNOME 2.0 platform and the challenges
free software faces to be adopted on the desktop.

Henry Poole, CEO, MandrakeSoft
Living copy left (in English)
Mandrakesoft CEO, Henri Poole will discuss
how a fully open culture fosters Cambrian like advances in evolution
and technology. In particular, he will illustrate how the open source
ideology is forcing the traditionally control-oriented business
mind, a direct product of the industrial revolution, to shed its
foundations of egocetricism and to open the way for human creativity
and decency. Open source is not just about software, it's about
collaboration and working for the greater good. |

Bruno Cornec, Linux Program Manager Europe , HP
Deployment of Linux servers in a Nutshell
Linux has now gained acceptance in IT environment, and now new
problems as deployment and management of hundreds of Linux servers
are arising. Hewlett-Packard helps its customers by providing various
means to support such deployment such as drivers, preloaded systems,
remote installation operation modes, management tools, and accompanying
support and training. |
